found her forever home.

Meet Jennifer, who found her “forever” home with Mrs. H (a relative) at the age of 10.  At the time, because Jennifer’s mother could no longer care for her, Mr. and Mrs. H stepped up and opened up their hearts and home to the young girl, and ultimately adopted her at the age of 15.  Today, Mr. and Mrs. H are the proud parents of a confident and smart 16-year-old, who loves to play volleyball with her friends. 

 
 

pursing his college dream.

When Dylan expressed an interest in becoming a doctor to his MercyFirst staff, the team immediately worked to plan next steps for his postsecondary education goals. Dylan applied to Suffolk Community College's science and math program and worked with his Educational Specialist to complete all financial aid and grant applications. Dylan will be the first member of his family to attend college!

 
 

therapy dogs teach patience.

Tiffany’s casework team felt that she would benefit from participating in our Therapy Dog Program, Project C.A.R.E to help her learn to better manage her feelings and emotions. After spending time with the dogs, Tiffany told her staff that being with the dogs was teaching her to be more patient and understanding. She also said that “I get to have fun, and if I’m mad, or sad, the dogs calm me down.”

Shawn managed to pay for one of his college semesters with the money earned while enrolled in MercyFirst’s Career Academy. “I will forever be grateful for my experience at Career Academy because not only were we provided with job opportunities, but we were also learned valuable lessons on credit, debit, taxes, and opening a bank account.”
